Importance of a Power of Attorney

Powers of attorney are important legal documents for any estate plan. At some point in everyone’s life, whether you have been injured in a tragic car accident, under anesthesia from a surgery, suffer from dementia or just plain old age, a power of attorney document is essential.

A power of attorney gives a person the power to make important decisions regarding your assets, debts, and business affairs. The person who you give the power of attorney to is known as your attorney-in-fact.

In Pennsylvania, there are specific laws that pertain to powers of attorney. A power of attorney that does not conform to the requirements of the Pennsylvania power of attorney law will not be effective at the important time it is needed.
